MAY BULLETIN - POWER FROM HEAVEN

Vance Havner - The early church had none of the things that we think are so essential for success today - buildings, money, political influence, social status - and yet the Church won multitudes to Christ and saw many churches established throughout the Roman world.

Why? Because the Church had the power of the Holy Spirit energizing its ministry. They were a people who were ignited by the Spirit of God.

The same Holy Spirit power is available to us today to make us more effective witnesses for Christ. The ministry of the Spirit is to glorify Christ in the life and witness of the believer (John 16:14) and that is what is important.

of one year, ask a student who failed a grade.
of one month, ask a mother who gave birth to a premature baby.
of one week, ask the editor of a weekly newspaper.
of one day, ask a daily-wage labourer with several children's mouths to feed.
of one hour, as the lovers who are waiting to meet.
of one minute, ask a person who missed the train.
of one second, ask the person who just avoided an accident.
of one millisecond, as a person who won a silver medal at the olympics.

One Sunday morning, the pastor noticed little Alex was staring up at the large plaque that hung in the foyer of the church. The plaque was covered with names, and small American flags were mounted on either side of it. The seven-year-old had been staring at the plaque for sometime, so the pastor walked up, stood beside him and said quietly, "Good morning, Alex."

"Good morning, Pastor," replied the young man, still focused on the plaque.
"Pastor McGhee, what is this?" Alex asked.

"Well, son, it's a memorial to all the men and women who have died in the service."
Soberly, they stood together, staring at the large plaque.
Little Alex's voice was barely audible when he finally managed to ask,
"Which one, the 9:00 or 10:30 service?
